As we all know, Christmas is a little under a month away and this year I would like to do something that I’ve wanted to do for a number of years now; organize a woodworking Holiday build to benefit the Toys for Tots Program.
Many of you are probably familiar with the TFT foundation and the assistance they provide. For those who are a little sketchy on it’s details, they are a great organization with the sole purpose of distributing toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community and to deliver a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters. This is a philosophy that I believe very strongly in. As such I would like to try and bring as many people together for a common and humble goal; to join in, spend a few hours in the workshop playing Santa and drop off your creations at a local center for distribution to families that are coming up a little short this year.
For the past month (and the next 4 weeks) I will be putting together video tutorials on simple woodworking projects / ideas that could be done with this goal in mind. Currently there are 2 videos that are geared specifically for children, and the remaining 4 will be solely for this purpose. Step by step instructions as well as the necessary templates will be available for viewing and download from this website.
The most current Christmas videos can be viewed from the home page on this site with additional videos available through the ‘video link‘ in the top menu bar. The templates that are available for download can also be found through the link in the top menu bar labeled ‘Christmas Downloads‘. Currently there is a small tugboat project as well as a toddler push toy (that IMO is absolutely beautiful!) More will be added over the next couple weeks, and ALL of the projects / ideas are things that can be built in a day or less. These are quality toys (the kind WE used to play with as kids) that will last for many, many years!
I would like all participants in this to send me a photo of the finished gift(s) so I can post them on this site. If all goes well I would like to see at least 100 items donated! Hopefully more!
I hope that a few of you out there share my interest and are willing to get involved. As well if you know someone that might like to participate please spread the word!
Please post any questions to this blog and I will do my best to answer them right away.
Thanks for reading!
